Before we start with day three, I have to share these sweet pictures... Most mornings the kids could be found in their rooms reading while waiting for us to get packed up for the day.
Tuesday was a day for exploring the Amelia Island area. We started the morning in Fernandina Beach, which is the city of Amelia Island. They have a gorgeous downtown with shops, restaurants, and other fun places - including a jammie store and toy store!
We found the candy shop first! Fantastic Fudge smelled so yummy! However, the kids actually skipped the fudge and chose rock candy!

We stopped for lunch at the Happy Tomato. Can't pass up a place with a cute name like that! Mads had a vibrant fruit plate!
We found this little guy outside of the Happy Tomato - "We ate lunch with a little lizard" became a saying for the trip...
After lunch we headed just down the street to Fort Clinch.
On our way we passed the Amelia Island Lighthouse. They have really wonky hours so the gate was as close as we could get. Pretty picture, though!
We entered in the main gate of Fort Clinch and we had to drive aways to find the actual Fort. The drive to the Fort on the shore was beautiful!

The tree canopies were stunning with all of the Spanish Moss hanging from the branches!
Walking up to the Fort we saw this sign. Imagine it is 1864 and enter into a fort under construction... they had people in full uniforms that would talk to you as if it was 1864. We only happened to see one "soldier" while we were there and he had a large group with him, so we weren't able to talk with him.

Our first stop was in the jail building. The bunks the kids are sitting on were guard bunks. The prisoners were housed in the rooms off to the side.

After dinner that night we went for a walk. Had the kids take a picture by our condo sign:
Whenever we would come and go from the condo we passed this super vibrant little soft serve stand. We had to try it out.... and now I need to figure out how to transfer DeNucci's home to Wisconsin! :) SOOOOO YUMMY!
