Week in Review

This past week went by pretty quickly. Monday and Tuesday were long days since Andrew works from 8:45-6:30, but after that the week seemed to fly by. Thursday I had another doctor appointment to have X-Rays taken. My doc was pleased to see that the hardware was holding in place and my leg was healing well. Then he gave me great news... ten more days and the cast can come off! I have an appointment scheduled for Monday, August 4th at 1PM to get this cast outta here! Kim is going to be coming up for the day to hang out with Mads and I and to take me to the appointment since Andrew can't get off work until later in the week. I'm so excited! After the cast comes off I'm going to be in a boot with still no weight bearing, but at least we're making progress!

In Maddie's world this week we had three new firsts. On Saturday evening she experienced Green Beans for the first time. She LOVES them. Out of Rice Cereal, Oatmeal Cereal, Peas and Green Beans she definitely loves the beans the best. She eats them up like a champ! We're introducing new foods once every five - seven days, so she will be having a lot of "first tastes" over the next couple months. Here are the Green Beans:




Also on Saturday Maddie watched her first Disney Movie. ABC was showing Peter Pan and Maddie was enthralled by it! She kept a close eye on the movie and didn't want to be bothered with the commercials. I'm so glad that she likes Disney movies because we have plenty for her to watch!


On Sunday we went to church, where Maddie had a blast dancing to the music, and then decided to go out to breakfast. We chose Perkins and since it was pretty busy being a Sunday morning AND with EAA in town there wasn't alot of extra room. We decided to try sitting Maddie in the high chair. She loved it. She had a great view and could even peek around the corner at the other tables.



In other news this week, Maddie had her six month pictures taken on Saturday. She sat like a pro and we got some really cute pictures. I will be able to post some of them in the next couple weeks. She decided to try out a new "cheesy" smile in which she crinkles up her nose and purses her lips together. The cheesy smile must be something that runs in the family, and something that I'm sure Kenzie and Abby will appreciate! ;)

(I realize that most of these pictures are blurry on the right sides. Something happened to our camera this week and I thought it was just the LCD screen. Apparently it's something with the lens as well because our pictures aren't normally blurry like this. I have to figure out how to get to the Post Office and mail the camera in for repairs. Good thing we still have our old camera!)

Six Month Stats!

Miss Madeline had a busy week with much excitement. On Wednesday evening we returned home to Oshkosh and on Thursday Maddie was back to the babysitter. Jeanette commented on how much Maddie seemed to have grown while she was gone. We found out on Friday how much bigger Mads actually was...
She weighed in at 15 pounds, eight ounces which is a little less than the 50th percentile for weight. She was 26.75 inches, coming in above the 75th percentile for height. Of course she had to get more shots, but she was a trooper and was showing off her Dora band aids later that night.


On Saturday Andrew went Charter boat fishing for Eric's birthday and Maddie spent the day with her cousins, Grandma Mary and Aunt Jill. She had a lot of fun with her cousins and even started to imitate them. Claire and Nick were outside playing and started jumping up and down. Maddie was outside watching, sitting in a lap, and when she saw the kids jumping she jumped too. When they stopped, she stopped. Mads is such a little sponge lately, learning every second!

Yesterday we had a big evening. Maddie had her first taste of veggies!! We started out with the ever-popular peas. She wasn't quite sure what she thought about the peas at first, but seemed to warm up to them by the end. Here are pictures of her first experience with peas:






There isn't much on the calendar for this week. On Thursday I have another appointment with the osteopath for more X-Rays of my leg. Last time I saw the doc he said that we would probably keep the cast on for ten more days after this upcoming appointment. So, we're getting there. I hope that the X-Rays look good and my leg is healing nicely.

Vacation Report!

Maddie and I have had a very nice vacation in Monroe, and we still have two more days left! We've had many visitors and it's been nice to see everyone. Maddie's cousins, MaKenzie and Abby stopped by to play and I grabbed a couple pictures:

Maddie has had a lot of fun playing on Grandma J's carpeted floor. She's getting good at sitting and standing with assistance. It's amazing how much she's doing and learning on a daily basis. She has also been eating rice cereal every night to get the whole eating concept down. Some nights are better than others, but overall she seems to be getting the hang of it.

Thursday Kim was kind enough to take me back up to Oshkosh for a doctor's appointment. The doctor had X-Rays taken of my leg to make sure that all the hardware was staying in place and that the bones hadn't shifted. He said that everything was looking good, but he wanted to see me back again in two weeks for another X-Ray to re-evaluate. He said that we might possibly take the cast off at that appointment, but more than likely we will end up keeping it on for another ten days after that appointment. All in all, that's 24 more days with the cast on and it's been two weeks already today. I understand that we don't want to rush the healing process, but it's still a bit of a bummer.

In other news, Little Miss Madeline had her SIX month birthday on Saturday!! I can not believe that our little peanut is a half-year old already! She's going to be crawling and getting into all kinds of things in no time!! Here are her birthday pictures: (07/21/08 - Now rotated for your viewing ease!!)





Andrew came down on Friday night after work and stayed until Sunday afternoon. We had a lot of fun on Sunday when Maddie donned her bikini and hit the pool for a dip. She had a lot of fun and was kicking and splashing away!




We also took a walk to the park on Sunday afternoon where Maddie had her first park experience. She had a ride in the swing, and a few rides down the slide with Aunt Kim as well.





Maddie and I head back home on Wednesday evening. Maddie has her six month check up on Friday, which means more shots. I am interested to find out Maddie's length and weight to see how she's growing.

Another week down...

Another week down and only 9 or so more to go! To look back now and think that it was three weeks ago that I fell is pretty amazing. The days themselves are long, but the weeks seem to go by alright. Once Andrew and Maddie come home the nights go by pretty quickly, and the holiday weekend helped too. Andrew didn't have to work on Friday so we were able to sleep in and spend the day relaxing. On Saturday Dad & Marie came up to Oshkosh to visit and pick up their new glasses that they ordered the last time they visited. On Saturday we had a picnic in the park and Sunday we went to church.

Maddie, Lily and I hitched a ride to Monroe with Dad and Marie when they went home on Sunday afternoon. Our babysitter is taking vacation this week, and since I'm unable to care for Maddie myself we had to make other arrangements. My mom offered for the three of us (Maddie, Lily & I) to come down and stay for the week. We're actually going to stay 10 days to help cut down on babysitting expenses since I'm not working. I also think that it will be nice for Andrew to have a bit of a break from taking care of everyone. He's been doing a wonderful job, and even though he won't admit it, I'm pretty sure that after three weeks of taking care of everything and everyone in the house he would like a little time to himself. He's going to come down to Monroe this weekend to visit us and before he knows it we will be back home on Wednesday the 16th.

On Thursday Jill & Eric came over to help install a ramp for my wheelchair. Initially Andrew and I thought we wouldn't need a ramp since I was able to bounce into the house through the front door. Let me tell you, I am so glad that we have the ramp now! Andrew is able to push me into and out of the house in the wheelchair, reducing the risk of me hurting my other leg with my bouncing!


On the 4th we had Maddie in a cute outfit with piggy-tails. She was our little sparkler, that is until she had an explosion of her own. This is afterwards, during her nap:


Saturday was bath day and Andrew decided to bring Maddie downstairs for a bath in the sink so that I could help. She had a blast in the sink! Look how adorable she is!!



On Sunday Maddie went for a walk with Andrew, Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Marie. This was a big deal because she sat in her stroller for the first time without her carrier seat! She was able to see the world from a Big-Girl view!
