Nathan's First Swim Meet!

The first swim meet of the Green County YMCA Gator season was held on Saturday, October 29th in Lake Geneva.  This had the special distinction of being Nathan's VERY FIRST MEET!!

This meet was held at the Geneva Lakes YMCA and was a three team meet - GYST (Geneva Lakes YMCA Swim Team) vs YDC (YMCA of Dane County) and GCY (Green County YMCA)

Here are the Josephs fish!!
Sharpie'd up!  Mads swam four events and Nate swam two.
Now with caps!  (This year's team suits aren't in yet so Mads had on last year's suit and Nate was wearing basic trunks)
What a cute crew!
Mads was up first - 25 yard Freestyle.  She's in lane 4 (lane 1 is at the top)
She won her heat!
Then it was Nate's turn for his 25 yard Freestyle!  His very first swim meet start!  (In lane 2)
Go Buddy!
Nate finished third!
Mads with her heat winner ribbon for 25 yard Free!
Mads next event was the 50 yard Freestyle.  She ended up taking over 5 seconds off her time!

Mads was up for 25 yard backstroke next.  Again, in lane 4.  (Notice Nate at the end of the lane to cheer her on!)
Then Nate swam his 25 yard backstroke.  He also swam in lane 4:
Go Nater!
Mads had some fierce competition at this meet.  Her friend Maggie was giving Mads a run for her money!!  :)  Nothing better than your friends pushing you to be your best!
Mads also swam the 25 yard breaststroke.  She was in lane 4 with Maggie beside her in lane 3!

The kids did great!  We are so proud of how hard they worked!

Punt, Pass & Kick!

With Nathan being in Flag Football this year we heard about the Punt, Pass and Kick competition held at the YMCA.  Nate was super excited to enter and Mads decided that she wanted to give it a try too!
The Monroe competition was held on Saturday, September 24th.  It happened to be a day that Nathan wasn't feeling well and ended up sleeping through the competition.  :(  He was a bit bummed, but was excited to hear about how Mads did.

Little shorty competed in the Girls Age 8/9 group:
Punt was up first:
Then passing (which I didn't get a picture of) followed by kicking:
Bam!
Mads won her group!  (OK - full disclosure - she was the only girl in the competition, so she automatically got the win....  BUT the organizers did tell us that she had the greatest accuracy of any of the competitors!)

Since Mads won her group in Monroe she went on to Sectionals in Middleton on Sunday, October 23rd.  She had a group of about 12 girls to compete against.
Here she is lining up and waiting to take the field:
She was so chilly waiting for her turn!
Punt:
Ready to pass:
And setting up for the kick:
Bam!
Mads didn't advance to the next round - but she gave the competition everything she had!  Way to go Mads!

Nate said he's looking forward to competing next year and Mads said she'll return as well.  Look for some mad skills in 2017!!
