Last week was not a pretty week. It started on Thursday the 7th and went downhill from there. On Thursday Miss Jeanette called Andrew and told him that Nathan was now trying so hard to poop that he was screaming and vomiting. I believe he threw up 3 times that day at the sitter. Also, Mads threw up as well. We think that was just a case of sensitive stomach as she never vomited again after that. But, Tater was not doing well at all. Andrew brought the kids home and I called the doctor. They simply said to watch him and they'd check in on Friday. When they called on Friday Nathan was on my lap screaming in pain as he had been most of Thursday evening and Friday morning. The nurse suggested we take Nathan in to walk-in care as Nathan's doctor doesn't work on Friday afternoons. Our regular doc was concerned about dehydration since Nathan had been refusing to eat anything since Thursday night. The Walk-In clinic doc didn't seem to concerned about Nathan's guts but she did find another problem - a double ear infection!! So, at this point the little man couldn't poop, wasn't eating, had painful ears and trying to pop his top two teeth. Everything all at once! :(
The silver lining in this, though, is that the Augmentin the doc prescribed for the ear infection has a side effect of diarrhea... and it most certainly affected Nathan!! Starting on Sunday he was no longer constipated, he was the complete opposite!!
While all of this was happening with Nathan Mads picked up a cold on Sunday. She was pretty wiped out most of the day and parked it on the couch. She really didn't move from the couch from when she woke up from her nap until bedtime. She had a fever, too, which she's never had before. We've never seen her so sick!
Sunday night she kept telling me how tired she was and that all she wanted to do was go to bed. Well, Sunday night was the night of the storms in Oshkosh. There was a tornado warning from 8-9PM. I didn't want to put her to bed on the second story during the tornado warning so I tried to get her to sleep on my lap. It was just a bad night for everyone!
On Monday Mads still wasn't feeling well. I stayed home from work so that she could rest at home. She still had her fever over 100 until mid afternoon when she finally perked up some. After she broke the fever she still had her cold which she kept until Friday or so. Nathan had the same cold and starting feeling better on Thursday or so.
On Wednesday the kids started their swimming lessons again. This is Maddie's third time in lessons, but more importantly her first time swimming ALONE! She is a "Pike" this year and is in a small class so that she can learn how to swim on her own. We were so proud of how well she did. She was nervous to go at first, but then she was the only kid to actually swim with the teacher!! All of the other kids kept telling the teacher that they didn't want to do it so Mads got some excellent one-on-one time with the teacher!
Nathan is in the "Shrimp" class. Parent and child class to teach the basics! He was having a lot of fun in the beginning, but about 3/4 of the way through the class he was done and didn't want anymore. I don't know if he got cold or if his ears were hurting, but he just wasn't having fun. He got to do most of the skills before his meltdown, though!
Thursday was a busy day. We started off with Nathan's Chiropractor appointment. While we were in the waiting room he and Mads were playing in the toy corner. Nathan chose that moment to pull himself up to standing for the first time. He was quite happy with himself!

Then we headed to Madison to see the Pediatric GI Specialist. Andrew and I felt like nerds going in with a complaint of constipation for 5 weeks when Nathan was currently experiencing diarrhea! :) We wanted make sure there wasn't an anatomical issue at hand and also what we could do if the constipation returns once Nathan is off the Augmentin. The Physician's Assistant was very nice and thorough. She told us that there is nothing wrong with Nathan, that he might just be a kid that is prone to constipation, especially at this time in his life when he's constantly trying new foods and his diet is changing. She said if he starts to have a couple days of constipation we can simply give him Miralax to help soften his stool. No biggies! We were so glad to hear that all is well and there is an easy fix in case this happens again. Poor Tater won't have to be constipated for 5 weeks before getting answers again!
I have more pictures from our week.
We were able to get out and enjoy the warmer weather mid-week before the kiddos got sick.
Heading out for a walk around South Park on Wednesday!
On Friday we were going to take a bike ride and put both kids in the trailer, but then Mads said she wanted to ride her bike. We put Nathan in the trailer, turned it into a stroller and took a walk instead while Mads rode along side.
Nathan thinks the trailer is pretty fun!
Mads got a new helmet!
After a block or so Mads decided she didn't want to ride anymore so she hopped in the trailer too!
On Saturday last week we went to story time at one of the local bookstores. We read two of the Ladybug Girl stories and once we were done Ladybug Girl came out to say hi! (Mads was a little apprehensive!)
Ugh... Living with kids takes its toll on the dog.... (Sticker stuck in her fur!)
Nathan enjoyed some Cheerios for the first time yesterday morning!
Last night we went to Aunt Jill's house to celebrate Easter with the Duchs and Grandma Mamie. Mads found Nick's horse, cowboy hat, and holster. What a cute Cowgirl!
I think everyone is on the mend from the sicknesses that plagued us for the last week and a half. I'm the only one with a remnant of a cold and I'm hoping that will be gone when I wake up tomorrow. Now, let's just hope that this weather shapes up and we can get the Spring weather to stick around longer than a day or two!
Thanks for stopping by!
HAPPY EASTER!
