What kid doesn't head off to the first day of school, already looking forward to Field Trip Day at the end of the school year? So maybe it's not that dramatic, but when you're staring at the calendar in February waiting for the snow to melt and the warm summer days to arrive - Field Trip Day is a happy daydream! :) I'll even admit that as a parent I had been looking forward to Field Trip Day! Last year I missed Mads' Kindergarten field trip and I made sure to request my days off as soon as I had the school calendar in hand.
First off we had Nathan's 4K Field Trip to the "Cheese Park" in town on Thursday, May 28th. For a 4 year old boy there isn't much better than a morning at the park with your friends and mom! (Yep, I'm still cool to 4 and 5 year olds!)
We started out the morning with play time on the school playground. Nate and some of his friends were playing Avengers. I had them Assemble for a picture! (Ha, get it?)
I LOVED tetherball in school. Guess I'll have to teach Nate the real way to play and we'll have some showdowns!
Then it was time to hop on the bus for a ride to the Cheese Park! Bus selfie!
Time for fun at the park! The teachers gave the kids a scavenger hunt to start the morning. Nate was hard at work:

After the kids completed their scavenger hunt, they had free play time. How fun is this picture? It looks like Nate is flying so fast!

We had a snack break followed by a second scavenger hunt, then more free play. We got back to school with just enough time to get a picture of all of Nathan's class. Mrs. Babler and her 2014-2015 AM 4K'ers!

The very next day, Friday May 29th, was Mads' turn for a field trip. We went to Rockford to the Discovery Center. The super fun thing about Mads' trip was that Andrew had the day off and was able to come as well! We had a blast - the Discovery Center was a totally awesome hands-on "museum."
But first, we had to get there... fun on the bus:
When we got to our first stop for fun Andrew, of course, noticed the Eye Chart...
While Mads and I had a Sit and Reach contest. We both fell into the "excellent" category! :)

Then we headed over into the sports area. This was where you could see how fast you could throw the ball. Mads was up first:

While we were watching Miss Skattum blow away Andrew's speed - we lost Mads to this... What is she doing?

LUNGS! My personal favorite. One of the other dads thought maybe she was trying out some new earrings - I'll have to look into that as an option! :)
After a good amount of time spent on the second floor it was time to head down to the exhibits on the first floor. But how to get there? Take the steps? Nah - we went down the mole holes!
The kids made a bee-line for the giant bubble exhibit. The goal was to pull the hoop up to encase yourself in a bubble. All of the bubbles popped at right around waist height for the kids. Bummer.
This was BY FAR Mads' favorite exhibit. She and her classmate were newscasters reading the teleprompter while on TV, Here's a "behind the scenes" look:

What a fun couple of days with two super fantastic kiddos and their classes! I wouldn't trade these experiences for anything!
