We started the summer off right - with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells. The Ames Family and the Zabel Family joined us, as this was our group trip for 2014. (Sadly, there will be no camping trip to Tunnel Trail - we just couldn't get our schedules to coordinate.)
Each family kind of did their own thing, but we all ended up overlapping for Sunday morning fun. The Ames got to the Great Wolf on Friday night. The Zabels came on Saturday afternoon, and we rolled in around 9PM on Saturday night because Andrew had to work until 6 in Rockford.
We got settled into our room and found that we had a sweet view of the outside of the Howlin' Tornado water slide.
The kids standing on our porch:
When we checked in the kids got a pair of wolf ears!
Sunday morning I let the kids go a little wild in the room and they had a blast jumping on the beds!
And "flying" from one bed to the other:
We were up bright and early on Sunday morning to pack as much fun into the day as we could. We were down to the water park before it opened, so we went walking around for a bit. We came across this guy:
And we got this cute picture in the big Great Wolf Chair!
Also a shot of Mads and Nate in front of the Lodge clock!
Then the pool FINALLY opened! We spent some time in one of the kiddie areas playing on the slides until all three families had met up.
The kids had lots of fun crossing the lilypads!
Mads found some courage to cross them standing up with the help of the overhead net!
Then it was off to the big waterslides! Mads and Dad rode together on a double tube:
While I rode with this guy!
Andrew and Mads headed off to a bigger ride that Nate wasn't tall enough for, but it was OK because we found another kiddie area!
And he decided to squirt himself in the ear!
After awhile it was back to the first kiddie area with the slides. Mads and Caden did races!
While Nate was having a blast sliding down by himself!
Here's a good shot of the dads with all the kids!
We did lunch at Monk's and then sadly had to say goodbye to the Ames Family. Our family and the Zabels headed back to the Great Wolf for a power nap and then we met back up in the waterpark.
Mads showing Nate the way to the wave pool:
The kids had a lot of fun in the wave pool! (Let me take a second to mention how FANTASTIC the Great Wolf lifeguards are - they're so diligent and you can see them checking the water constantly. Even though I was right next to the kids all the time, it was nice to have the piece of mind knowing that the guards were right there!)
Mads took a shot of Andrew and I!
Nate having a BLAST!
We took a spin on another double tube slide. Mads and I went together this time while the boys rode together.
WEEEEEE! My riding bud, Mads, loved this slide the most!
Nate heading up the stairs and waiting patiently!
Mads and I on our second trip down, this time in the dark!
After our second run on the slides we went back to the wave pool. We grabbed a group selfie!
After some waves we headed over to the activity pool. The kids climbed on top of the floating log:
And made some slam dunks with Daddy's help!
That night was treat night! An ice cream sundae and a monster cookie! YUM!
Two cuties in a big bed!
Monday morning we packed up our things and got them loaded into the van. The kids outside of our room:
Before it was time to leave we spent a bit in the arcade!
We all took turns on the Whack-A-Wolf!
We played some games and won some tickets!
These tickets bought us two bouncy balls, two Great Wolf drawstring bags, and two snap bracelets!
Lastly, we stopped in the gift shop. We told Mads and Nate that they could each pick a glitter tattoo. They were super excited!
The finished products! Nate chose the wolf print in 4 green glitter colors and Mads chose the butterfly with purple rainbow colors!
Then it was time to say goodbye to the Great Wolf Lodge.
Esther, Mads & Nate (Trygve wasn't feeling a picture)
Buddies!
These two little wolves (and Andrew & I) had a great stay at the Great Wolf Lodge! It was fun to meet up with our Optometry friends and let the kids spend time together!

Wooooooooooooo! (Wolf for "Let's do it again soon!")
