Saturday was a big day - Andrew's birthday!! We were pretty booked up with plans all weekend so we kind of spread out his birthday celebration over the whole weekend in parts.
On Friday night we went out to celebrate at dinner. We headed over to the new hibachi restaurant in town, Sakura. We had a little bit of a wait for our table, so the bartenders let the kids play with some drink umbrellas. Mads and I found a fun place for them - our hair! :)
Andrew and I didn't know how well the kids would do with the food. We figured the chicken would be OK, but the rest of it was questionable. The kids were AMAZING and offered to try everything out. The soup passed Maddie's test and she took a few bites, but the salad was not a hit.
The most amazing thing was that Mads actually asked me if she could try my sushi! This coming from the kid who won't even try tater tot casserole!
Look at her go to town with those chopsticks! Mads didn't eat the whole roll, but she did eat about half of it.

Mads ate over half her bowl of rice - all with her chopsticks. She told us that we should give her rice all the time. I guess our grocery bill is going to go down! :)
Saturday morning (Andrew's actual birthday) we had breakfast at Big Apple Bagels. That's two birthdays (Nathan's and Andrew's) that we've celebrated with breakfast there... seems like it might be a new tradition.
After breakfast we went down to the Farmer's market. Even though the kids just finished their bagels they still wanted mini donuts. They are so delish that you can't pass them up!

Saturday night we had a big party at church to welcome the college kids back to school. We had a cook out, games and music. Nathan found that oreos were the best part of the meal - although he did eat lots of watermelon, too.
On Sunday night after dinner the crew at church surprised Andrew with a cake and a round of "Happy Birthday." He was surprised and excited about the ice cream cake!
Nathan was a big help in passing out the bowls of cake! :)
