On Wednesday, August 3rd we had a very busy day! Right away at 9:00 we were at the Menominee Park Zoo here in Oshkosh. It's a small zoo, but it's free and the kids always have fun when we're there. This was the first time we had been to the zoo this summer, so Mads didn't recognize it when we pulled up. She asked me where we were and I told her to wait and we'd read the sign. As soon as we got to the sign she said "We're at the Zoo!" I asked her how she knew and she said it was because the sign said Z-O-O!
Making their way to the Zebus
Playing on the plastic turtles:
After walking the zoo for about an hour we headed over to the Little Oshkosh playground right next door to the zoo. We spent another hour and half playing there!
Mads tells me how she was able to read the Zoo sign:
That same night was the first night of the Winnebago County Fair. As soon as Andrew was home from work we headed out for some fun. I don't think we were even through the front gate before Mads was asking to ride on the rides. Their height cutoff was 36 inches, and lucky for Mads she is exactly 36 inches!
Getting ready to ride the Oriental Express! Mads picked the front seat, too!
She wasn't sure about the ride at first, but after the 15th time around (not even exaggerating) she decided she liked it and was having fun! This was good, since I think we still went around another 15 times. Longest. Ride. EVER!
Mads and Daddy then went and did the Ferris Wheel. Here they are peeking over the side of the yellow bucket:
It was FUN!
We stopped an took a break for supper. Immediately afterwards Mads wanted to get back on the rides. She asked me to ride the spinning aliens with her. She loved spinning it, which I didn't completely appreciate after just eating! :)
After the alien ride we hit a few "Little Kid" rides. First Mads flew her own helicopter.
Then she and I rode the carousel.
She spun the teacup like a pro!
Nathan and Daddy watching Mads ride the teacups:
After the rides we stopped and played Pick-A-Duck. Mads was a seasoned pro:
And Nathan gave it his first try!
Mads chose a stuffed pink pig and Nathan got a tiny little stuffed dog that we dubbed "Tiny Puppy" They were super happy with their loot, though!
After the stop for Pick A Duck Mads was back on the rides! I couldn't believe it, but she wanted to ride the Tilt-A-Whirl with Andrew!
She said she loved it and that it was her favorite ride!
But then they did Bumper Cars next and THAT was her favorite ride! On the way home she kept telling us that she loved when Daddy was driving the car and bonked into other people! :)
We picked up the usual fair snacks on our way out of the fair. Cotton Candy and Shaved Ice (there's no Cheese Curds here in Oshkosh!) I tried to take a nice picture of the kids with the cotton candy and this is what I got - a fight over who could hold the bag!
Sharing the shaved ice with Daddy
We started out in the reptile building.
And then went over to the Butterfly Exhibit. It was super neat. You walk into this crazy hot & humid greenhouse and there a butterflies flying everywhere!
Mads was trying to get one to land on her hand and we didn't have any luck.
Nathan had one land directly on his head! :)
Nathan's friend:
After the butterflies we continued on our way through the zoo. We had to stop at the Mold-A-Rama machines, though! Those things are SWEET! :)
Mads was seriously this excited about the Mold-A-Ramas!
Look! It's Mads! Just kidding!
BIG Gorilla!
My baby gorillas! :)

Sweet! Mads and Nathan got cool new Zoo shirts! :)
